Magnesium. Mg2+

Magnesium is one of the main component in the preparation of plant media for tissue culture. Magnesium plays an important role in providing the useful nutrient required for the growth of the explant in the media. Below, is the list of the importance of Magnesium:

1. Magnesium play an important role in many enzymes activity in plant. Magnesium is required for the activation of certain enzyme in plant for the enzyme to perform better.

2. Magnesium is involved in the RNA synthetase, where Mg2+ is one of the required ion to activate the RNA synthetase. RNA synthetase is highly specific. Thus, can you imagine, without the present of Mg2+ how can the RNA activity be carried out.

3. Magnesium is also one of the central atom in Chlorophyll. Thus, with the presence of this magnesium chlorophyll can be produced by the explant being cultured.

Some of the bad effects that a plantlets encounter due to the limitation in Mg2+ would be the dissociation of RNA
